Let's start from the oldest, Pellet Gun. This type of airsoft is spring type; manual cocking to make it ready for firing. "Airsoft guns that are "spring type" use a coiled spring to store and release mechanical energy, which then pushes a piston to compress air, ultimately propelling a BB out of the barrel. They are the most basic and reliable type of airsoft gun, known for their simplicity and affordability. " -quote. To add, no limit in firing since it doesn't use any source of power aside from the coiled spring energy.
AEG or the Automatic Electric Guns are using rechargeable 7.4v or 11.1v batteries to operate its mechanism. "The core function of an AEG is to fire BBs using compressed air generated by an internal, battery-powered mechanism. This mechanism, primarily housed within a component called the gearbox, cycles rapidly to allow for semi-automatic and fully automatic firing modes." -quote
Gel Blaster Riffles and Pistols are mostly an AEG type but uses a water-based bbs and a bit larger, 7-8mm than pellet bbs, 6mm. "The primary function involves a mechanism (gearbox, spring, or gas system) that builds up and releases pressure to propel a single gel ball out of the barrel at speeds typically ranging from 80 to 250 feet per second (FPS)." -quote. There are also gel blaster spring type pistols that functions same with pellet gun.
Gas Blowback (GBB) or Gas type is commonly known as airsoft gun. "Airsoft gun is a type of airsoft replica that uses compressed gas (such as Green Gas or CO2) to propel the BB and simulate the realistic mechanical action and recoil of a real firearm." - quote
The GBB airsoft gun is to give an immersive and realistic shooting experience. Same with a real gun. GBB are most popular for training purposes or for players in practical shooting or war games who prioritize realistic, accurate shooting trajectory, and durable and high performance in all conditions.
